ABOUT ME

Claudia E. Cruz has a law school degree from The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law and a masters degree from the CUNY Graduate School of Journalism. 

She currently serves as the Editor-in-Chief of El Correo de Queens, a hyperlocal news paper that covers the Latino community of Northwest Queens, and is a staff reporter for The Queens Courier. Before that she wrote about matters in her local community in her blog, CruzNews, and has also contributed to the Manhattan Times and The Huffington Post’s Off the Bus political coverage blog.  She has also edited copy for the World Policy Institute. During the Summer of 2008, she interned at Diario Libre, the largest free daily newspaper in the Dominican Republic and in Spring of 2008, she interned for NY1 Noticias, a 24-hour local New York Spanish language news station.

Following her first year of law school Claudia served as a Summer Associate for Carlile Patchen & Murphy.  During her second summer, Claudia was a Legal Intern at the Major League Soccer headquarters in New York.  While at Moritz, Claudia served as a Managing Editor of The Ohio State Journal on Dispute Resolution and as a mediator at the City of Columbus Night Prosecutor Mediation Program.  She also worked for Professor Creola Johnson doing research on financial literacy and predatory lending.  She participated in the Student Bar Association as Co-Chair of the Diversity Committee and as Chair of Community Service.  In BLSA, Claudia assisted in planning Black History Month and served as the Professional Development Chair for two years.  She served as Chair of the OSU Hispanic Student Services Advisory Council, a university-wide Hispanic planning committee, and she began the first Spanish table at Moritz to encourage students to learn Spanish legal terms. 

As a result of Claudia’s involvement with diversity programming at Moritz and OSU, she was invited to speak at Ohio Wesleyan University and Otterbein College on leadership and diversity issues.

She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Wesleyan University in Middletown, CT and majored in International Relations and Latin American Studies. During her junior year, she studied in Madrid, Spain and served as a congressional intern in the Spanish Parliament.
